triangle lapbook

Lately I discovered living math and trying to put it into our lesson,
this is my first attempt.
.
We were doing triangle,
although there were clear pictures and explanations in the textbook,
XP still not quite understand.

. .
.
.
So we made this simple lapbook on triangle.
.
.
.
.
A pocket with a card in it
showing how the angles in a triangle make a straight line.
.
.
.
.
Right angle triangle,
showing the other 2 angles make a right angle too.
.

.
.
.
Equilateral triangle,
showing all sides and angles are equal.
.
.
.
.
Isosceles triangle,
showing two sides are equal.
.
.
.
.
Then I figured that out of the 5 Platonic Solids,
3 are made out of equilateral triangles,
so I decided to put them in this lapbook too.
.
.
Here is the explanation of Platonic Solids.
.
.
.
.
And this explain what are polygons.
.
.
.
.
A free print-out I got from Jimmie's Collage.
..
.
.
and made a mobile out of them.
.
.
.
And the most important is
this is the first time in 2 years that
XP said she loves mathematic.

  1. Oh, wow! I saw the pics at Flickr added to the lapbooking set. I was fascinated with your ideas for teaching about triangles. Those kinds of hands-on manipulations are exactly what we want for living math. I will be using all of your ideas in the future! Thanks so much for laying it all out like this.

Oh, and when you said at the end that it was the first time your child said she liked math. Oh, that made me so happy!!

This post would be great for the Charlotte Mason blog carnival! You can submit it here. Please DO! This is such a great living math post. People need to see this!
