Haikara Style Cafe & Bakery

I always wanted to come to this little cafe
everytime I pass by.

Two weeks ago there was a Popular Book Fair at Subang Avenue,
since the cafe is just in the building next to it, I decided to pay it a visit.

The cakes are freshly made every morning by the Japanese owner.

shephard pie

My version of shephard pie:
.
dice whatever veggie I have and fry them with onion and minced meat,
flavour with thyme, worcestershire sauce and salt,
scoop into a baking dish,
top with mashed potato (steamed potato + milk + Djon mustard),
bake in oven 180C for 45 minutes.
.
take out the dish,
top with another layer of cheese (mozzarella + cheddar + parmesan),
bake for another 10 minutes.

鍋貼 guo tie (wor tip)

鍋貼 ("guo tie" or "wor tip" in Cantonese) for dinner,
served with vineger (for myself) and soya sauce (for hubby and daughter);
and green tea.

Basically a guo tie is a half fried half steamed dumpling.

Kuih Dadar Manis

Every time when eating at the library cafe,
XP always has a piece of Kuih Dadar Manis (also called Kuih Ketaya).
.
I remembered I made this kuih once during my school days,
so I digged out my old school book and found the recipe. It's basically shredded coconut wrapped in thin pancakes
just replace coconut milk with dairy milk,
add some flavouring (juice squeezed from crushed pandan leaves)
and a drop of green colouring.
.
For the filling -
shredded coconut with sugar
and Gula Melaka (I replaced this with brown sugar).
.
.
.
Here are the steps on how to wrap the kuih.
